Russian athletes will also be able to participate in the European Masters Athletics Championships Non Stadia. The event organized by the Track & Field Master Grosseto sports association and the European Athletics Masters Federation with the support of the Municipality of Grosseto scheduled for Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 May in the capital, will also see the arrival of representatives of the Russian Federation. On the competition website www.grosseto2022.com the information relating to the event has also been translated into Cyrillic. In 2019, Russia found itself at the center of a doping scandal and the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) sentenced it to a four-year hiatus from international sports competitions, including the Olympics. Later, in 2020, the Sports Arbitration Tribunal allowed Russian athletes to participate in the competitions, but on condition that they did not display the country's name.
“We learned the news a few days ago: after five years, Russian athletes are also returning to Italian competitions. We immediately moved to make it as easy as possible for athletes to participate in our event by translating the site into their language as well - explains the president of the organizing committee, Ernesto Croci –. Our goal is to bring athletic enthusiasts from all over Europe to Grosseto, to introduce more people to our beautiful territory. It is certainly not an easy time for sport: the pandemic is once again putting a stop to competitions but we hope that in May 2022 the situation will be better. However, these are open-air competitions and all anti-contagion rules will be carefully observed ".
The event is open to men and women over 35 who will compete in various disciplines, including walking and road running.
