Grosseto will host the European Championships 2022 non-stadia in athletics. The news comes from the European Masters Athletics association which announced today the assignment of the event, in the city council hall of the Tuscan city. Four days of competitions are planned, dedicated to road running and road walking, with the proposal to carry out the competitions in the first week of May next year. It will be the 18th edition of the "over 35" continental review that will return to Grosseto after that of 2015. The candidacy was carried out by the company Track & Field Master Grosseto with the support of the Municipality of Grosseto.
“We are really happy to be back in Italy - the words of Kurt Kaschke , president of EMA - and in particular in Grosseto, an important city for athletics , as well as confident of setting up a successful event, despite the difficulties of this period. We hope that in a year, in 2022, it will be the first international post-pandemic road master event, which could attract around three thousand participants, and a party for all ”.

In this edition, confirmed the traditional distances of 10 kilometers and a half marathon for road running, the 5 kilometers with intermediate detection over 3 miles could be introduced. On the other hand, the road walking program will see, as usual, the races of 10 km men and women, 30 km men and 20 km women ". The presentation press conference was also attended by Francesco Contorni , vice president of Coni Toscana, and Elisabetta Teodosio , delegate of Coni Grosseto. Also present was Pierluigi Dei , national trustee of the Race Judges Group.
For the third time the non-stadia European Masters will take place in Italy, which also hosted them in 1991 in Dolo and Mira, in the province of Venice. In Grosseto the competition venues will be the sports center in via Mercurio and the Sandro Pertini park in viale Giotto, while the half marathon circuit will pass through the streets of the historic center.
