The Grosseto European Championships have been presented! Here we are!

Thursday 12 May the opening ceremony, from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 the races of the non-staging continental review presented today.

"We have achieved the desired goal - declared Ernesto Croci , president of the organizing committee and of Track & Field Master Grosseto - and everything is ready to welcome the better who will arrive in Maremma. As athletes, we focused on what are the needs of the participants: we worked convinced that it would be the first international post-pandemic master event, we then found ourselves organizing a European championship with the war in Europe and in a particular historical moment. Athletes will be rewarded with medals created by the Grosseto craftsman Andrea Cicerale and there will be an official song of the event created by Cinzia Monari together with other local musicians. It was a gamble for everyone, but now all that remains is to fully enjoy these days of sport. Thanks to the municipal administration who supported us, to the federations and to the many volunteers who will help us during the competitions ".

Among the speeches, that of the mayor of Grosseto, Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna : "It is an international event and we are thrilled to host a European level event, with a large number of people in the area . We are sure that discovering our city by competing, and living it in moments of relaxation between competitions, will represent an important opportunity to give a memory of Grosseto and the Maremma, which we hope will make the participants want to come back and visit us. A big thank you goes to the FIDAL president, Stefano Mei , with whom we are also working on future projects ". “With this event - explained the deputy mayor and municipal councilor for sport Fabrizio Rossi - we have attracted many sportsmen to Grosseto who will be able to enjoy the territory. Especially in this difficult period, it is wonderful to see how sport can create a sense of aggregation and belonging to a group, it can at the same time put in competition and unite ".

Also present was Gerardo Vaiani Lisi , outgoing treasurer of the European Masters Athletics, who donated to the mayor the philatelic cancellation of the centenary of the Assi Giglio Rosso Florence and underlined: "The European masters association has chosen the city of Grosseto for the hospitality always demonstrated, with an organizing committee made up of competent enthusiasts who took care of the details also to identify technical routes. The world of masters is trying to restart with renewed enthusiasm in a period with many problems: about thirty Ukrainian athletes are expected, who will have free registration. Our hope is that all athletes will return home with a heart full of wonderful sports days ".
